Principal Architect

The Principal Architect is responsible for defining, driving, and helping to implement the technical roadmap across STARLIMS Engineering teams. This role also is responsible for ensuring the successful design, development, and delivery of innovative products and solutions. This role requires a balance of deep hands-on technical expertise, strong leadership, and business acumen to align engineering strategy with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership & Strategy
- Work hands on with all engineering teams to define and drive the engineering technical roadmap in alignment with company objectives.
- Mentor and inspire engineering teams across multiple products.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Technical Oversight
- Provide technical direction for product architecture, system design, scalability, and security.
- Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to maintain competitive advantage.
- Ensure engineering excellence through code quality, automation, DevOps, AI, and best practices.
- Execution & Delivery
- Oversee the delivery of high-quality software products on time and within budget.
- Implement engineering processes and methodologies that optimize productivity and quality.
- Partner with Product Management, Professional Services and other business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical deliverables.
- Team Development
- Help recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent.
- Encourage knowledge sharing and cross-functional skill development.
- Accountability & Governance
- Own engineering KPIs, metrics, and reporting to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and quality standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of engineering experience with at least 5 years in a Principal Architect role.
- Proven track record of helping to lead large-scale engineering teams and delivering complex products.
- Strong technical foundation in software development, architecture, cloud infrastructure, and modern engineering practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in helping to scale engineering organizations in a high-growth or enterprise environment.
- Defining / executing technical roadmap.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with a strategic mindset.
- Proficiency in modern programming languages and concepts including:
- TSQL, PL SQL
- JavaScript, C#, HTML5, jQuery
- NET Framework, JavaScript Frameworks.
- Data structures and algorithms.
- Source control systems: Git/TFVC.
- Performance and Scalability patterns.
- Software Architecture.
- CI/CD knowledge.
- Ability to work cross-functionally / globally.
Preferred Skills:
- Background in Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps practices.
- Knowledge of security, compliance, and data privacy regulations.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Education:
Computer Science or similar engineering discipline including Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering is required.
10% travel as needed.
